As we enter May, breast cancer awareness month, we will be seeing and hearing TV and radio ads asking everyone to do what they can to help fight this awful disease. One of the things that we decided to do as part of our plan to raise money to help the fight was get corporate sponsors. We are asking for one person on each team to see if the company they work for would be willing to donate $100 toward this fight. We have 240 people in this league. Even if only 10 people were successful that would be another $1,000 for the cause. Once again, this is strictly voluntary. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you do get your company to agree they will be placed on the sponsor page of the OTB website. You can turn in the donation (checks made payable to Over Thirty Baseball with "breast cancer fundraiser" on the memo line) to your manager and they will get it in to me.

Gentlemen,
As we once again lace up the cleats for another season of baseball we should for a moment consider just how lucky we are to be able to do so! Every Sunday morning we have the pleasure of getting together with good friends and playing what is arguably the greatest game on earth. Win or lose we manage to enjoy ourselves.
OTB has given us the opportunity for this enjoyment. There are many people working hard to make sure that every Sunday morning we have this opportunity. These same people that work hard for us have through the years worked hard for others too. They realize that not everyone has the opportunities that we have. OTB charities have grown through the years. One of the new endeavors last season was to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. We basically took a collection from the OTB players (some players did get outside donations which were greatly appreciated) and we were very successful with that. We are once again going to try to raise money for the fight against breast cancer this season.
This season we will be having a calendar raffle. For those unaware of just what that is I will explain. Raffle tickets will be sold at $5 per ticket. Each ticket will have June 2009 on it. Each day in June will have a dollar amount assigned to it. Stubs will be put in a barrel. The stub drawn for each day in June will win the dollar amount for that day. It is very simple. We know that the number one reason each player signed up for OTB is to play baseball. We also want you to know that you are not required in any way to help out with this cause. But please do know that if you do help out it will be greatly appreciated!
Every manager will have 150 raffle tickets available on opening day. We are asking for players to step forward and take as many tickets as you can to sell to your friends, family, coworkers and kind looking strangers! Obviously you can buy as many as you would like as well. There is no limit on how many any one person can buy.
***You do NOT pay for the ticket until it is sold to someone. Once you sell them you return the stub and the money to your manager*** 150 might seem like a lot but it comes down to 10 per player if you average it out. There are extra tickets available if you need more.
Why sell them? Well, for one, you just might save a life. That seems to be a pretty good incentive. But we have another incentive...YOU CAN WIN A FREE YEAR OF OTB!!! OTB has raffled off a free year of OTB for the past few years and will do so again. They sell the chances for $10 each. The player who sells the most calendar raffles will get 2 free entries into the drawing. The player selling the second most will get one free entry. There is a place on the stub for the players name & team.
